Scouting for Food - February 12th & 19th, 2012
Calling ALL Texas Skies District Scouters: It's time to give back!
Scouting for Food is the largest single-day food collection event in Dallas and one of the largest in the nation. On one day, approximately 30,000 Scouts go door-to-door collecting non-perishable food item for the less fortunate. The food is distributed to local food pantries across Circle Ten Council.
It is especially important this year that all of our units set a stretch goal and make this their BIGGEST food collecition ever, and I'll tell you why: All of the food banks in Kaufman County and surrounding counties are feeling the impact of a downturned economy and recent budget cuts from United Way and other donations. They are overwhelmed with hungry families needing assistance. So please meet with your units and strategize how you can maximize your food drive contributions this year!
Unit/Event Leaders Checklist:
1. Pick up your empty Food Bags: Please plan to pick up your unit's Food Bags at January Roundtable.
2. Strategize with your Unit volunteers: Identify your Scouting for Food Drive Strategy, plan your routes, arrange logistics.
Spending two weekends on this project is not doubling your work. Pick-ups are much quicker if you give folks notice,
as well as donations being larger!
3. Distribute Food Bags in your designated Neighborhoods: Distribute your Food bags on Saturday, February 12th.
4. Collect the Cans!: The food bags will then be collected from the residences starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 19th.
5. Count the Cans: PLEASE, call or text Kristi Lindberg at cell 206.290.1924 to report your Unit's Total Collection Count
on Saturday, Feb 19th.
6. Donate the Food: Units have the option of providing their Food Drive collection to any Food Banks in their own local area
or to Tom Thumb drop-off locations.

Texas Skies District Lock-In and Pinewood Derby Event - February 24th-25th am
Cub Scouts get ready, get set, GO! We are finally having the first-annual District Lock-In and Pinewood Derby Event!
We promise they will have a BLAST - and hopefully even get some rest because lights out at 12:30am!
This event will be hosted by Pack 390 at their First Christian Church in Terrell.
Plan to attend as a unit and let your Cub Scouts take Pinewood competion to the next level by competing across the District!
The Event will begin 6pm Friday, February 24th, 2012 - doors locked by 7pm. It will include camping in overnight, with some activities, pizza, popcorn, a movie, as well as BIG RACE, and a pancake breakfast on Saturday, February 25th.
Event Fee: $10.

Volunteers: We are looking for Trained Leaders to Volunteer, so please contact me ASAP to sign up!
Texas Skies District Spring Camporee - March 23rd - 25th, 2012
This year's Spring Camporee theme will be 'Scouting on the Frontier' and will be hosted by Troop 339 of Forney
This year we are camping at Pecan Lake Ranch in Edom, TX.
Registration fee $10 pp ($5 pp for cub scouts day entry)
Events will include: Lost Wagon, Indian Raid Rescue, Tomahawk throw, Log Pull, Chuck Wagon Cookoff, Leather crafting, Scoutmaster Competion, and more!
